RECYCLING AND TRASH DISPOSAL
Tobyhanna Township residents and businesses are required by ordinance to recycle. The items to be recycled are GLASS CONTAINERS (clear, green and brown), ALUMINUM, BIMETAL, and STEEL CANS, PLASTICS numbered 1 and 2, and NEWSPAPERS.
The Township has three options for recycling. The Township Recycling Drop-Off and Transfer Station is located on
Sullivan Trail Road. The Transfer Station hours of operation are Monday thru Friday 8:00AM to 4:00PM, Saturday 8:00 AM
to 3:00 PM and closed on Sundays and Holidays. The center accepts recyclables as well as bags of household trash and
large items to be disposed of. THERE IS A FEE FOR THIS SERVICE.
In the spring and fall of the year, the Township holds clean-up days at the station, which is operated by Panther
Waste Systems. On these clean-up days,
recyclables are not accepted and rates are charged according to a schedule set by Panther Waste Systems.
Proof of residency or property ownership is required to utilize this facility such as a tax bill, lease agreement or PP&L bill. Please call center at (570) 646-5178 during hours of operation for further information.
Recycling drop-off points operated by Monroe County Municipal Waste Management Authority are set up at the Blakeslee Village Mall. The items collected at these sites include GLASS, PLASTICS, CANS, NEWSPAPERS, MAGAZINES, CATALOGS, and JUNK MAIL. (PHONE BOOKS are collected on a seasonal basis). THERE IS NO FEE FOR THIS SERVICE.
The other option available to residents is curbside recycling pick-up done by your own private trash hauler. The Township distributes containers free of charge to residents who wish to obtain one. Proof of residency is required to be issued a container.
